read
why the SUNDAY TIMES travel
magazine considers Bequia, Mustique, Petit St.Vincent & Anguilla to be
made for you

"Bequia
Bequia, an hours ferry south of St.Vincent, is an island thats perfect for two. The lack of direct flights keeps the crowds away, so you can expect sleepy, Caribbean charm. Stroll hand in hand through the charismatic main town of Port Elizabeth, have a cozy candlelit dinner at a cafe, and lounge on near deserted forest backed sandy coves and bays. In the late afternoon stop by the Frangipani Hotel in Admiralty Bay for a Banana Cow (rum Milkshake) by the water's edge, then try dinner at the Devils Table across the harbour or sail to the Tobago Cays for snorkelling and lunch on the lovingly restored Friendship Rose."

"Mustique
You won't need a Do Not Disturb Sign on Mustique-seclusion, privacy and the utmost discretion come guaranteed on this the worlds most exclusive island. This is where the (very) rich and (very) famous come to play and hide. (Mick Jagger spends several months a year here)-so, too can you. Spend your days exploring the island, strolling along the 9 silky soft beaches-and your evenings enjoying private dinners by the waters edge or moonlit champagne picnics on deserted wild Macaroni Beach. Stay at the rustic-chic Cotton House Hotel-Celebs love it for its discreet service with all mod cons. Party at Basils Bar if you must."

"Petit St.Vincent
For proper peace and quiet you can't beat a private island and this is one of the Caribbeans prettiest- a hilly bottle green dollop edged by startlingly white beaches and bright seas. You won't be entirely on your own-the only way to stay there is by checking in at the islands low-key resort (and only habitation)-but don't let that put you off. There are just 22 rustic-luxe cottages hidden among bushes of bougainvillea, and a beach-to-guest ratio that means you'll barely see a soul. There are no room keys, TVs or phones. Instead guests use flags, Swallows and Amazons style, to summon assistance. Days are spent on the beach or snorkelling over coral reefs, nights are for rum cocktails at the barefoot bar or picking out constellations with your cottages very own star-gazing kit."

"Anguilla
Beloved of celebrities who eschew the flashbulbs of the paps, this British overseas territory has a low-key exclusive feel, with a total lack of cruise ships and jet skis (both are banned). Hideaway in the private walled gardens that enclose the apartments at the Cap Juluca resort. The white domes give the place a moorish feel and it sits footsteps from washing-powder white sands that never get crowded. Anguilla is only 2.5km long, so if you plan to stay more than a few days, take a 3 minute boat ride from Island Harbour to the islet at Scilly Cay. Here you can eat barbecued lobster at the island restaurant, facing an immaculate sandy bay which, much of the time, will be populated only by you, a few discreetly stylish villas and the endless Caribbean sun."
